A look back at the Harvest Festival at Airfield Estate

From 12 to 13 September, the Airfield Estate Harvest Festival brought together families, farmers, and curious visitors for two days of discovery, creativity, and hands-on learning. The event offered a vibrant space to explore sustainable food and farming and the TRANSFORM team was thrilled to be part of it.

Discovering the future of farming with TRANSFORM

Throughout the festival, visitors of all ages were invited to explore “The Future of Food Crops in Europe”, an interactive exhibit designed to make agricultural research accessible and engaging.

At the TRANSFORM stand, children and adults immersed themselves in the project’s themes through.

Two original board and card games, created by our partners Verena Hackmann and David, helping players understand the challenges farmers face when adapting to climate change :

Verena’s board game turned everyone into crop explorers, discovering traditional and new plants, understanding their needs, and designing diverse, resilient crop rotations.

David’s card game : Let’s Play for Resilience!

Challenged players to collect cards representing key elements of climate-resilient agriculture. A fun and competitive way to learn about yield, soil health, biodiversity, and more.

A virtual reality experience, allowing participants to visualise what the future of European farming could look like through climate-resilient crop rotations.

These playful tools helped make scientific concepts tangible while sparking curiosity, discussion, and creativity.

Bringing research to life — through play

The games proved especially popular among younger visitors, who enthusiastically tested their memory, strategy, and observation skills. Through play, they engaged with important agricultural topics such as soil health, biodiversity, water needs, and climate adaptation.

This approach perfectly reflects TRANSFORM’s mission:
to co-create knowledge and make agricultural research understandable and engaging for all.

A warm thank you

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited our stand — your curiosity, ideas, and enthusiasm made the event truly special.

Congratulations as well to Verena Hackmann and David for their creative contributions, which brought the TRANSFORM project to life in such an accessible and inspiring way.

We look forward to meeting many more of you at future outreach events as we continue exploring sustainable crop rotations and the future of farming in Europe.
