Future Rotations Explorer v2: TRANSFORM is developing the first prototype

TRANSFORM is developing the first working prototype of the Future Rotations Explorer (FRE) v2, an interactive tool designed to help explore future crop rotation scenarios under changing climate conditions.

The TRANSFORM project is developing the first working prototype of the Future Rotations Explorer (FRE) v2, an interactive tool designed to help farmers explore how climate change may affect crop rotations and consider possible adaptation options for the future.

The prototype is now entering a testing and validation phase, during which feedback from farmers and advisors will continue to support the further development of the tool and its functionalities.

A tool to explore future crop rotations

The FRE v2 is being developed as a learning and exploration tool to help users better understand the possible impacts of climate change on crops and crop rotations over the medium and long term.

Using the tool, farmers can:
– Explore climate projections for their region
– Visualise potential impacts on crop yields
– Compare current and future crop rotations
– Test alternative crops or varieties
– Investigate possible changes in sowing and harvesting periods

The tool follows a step-by-step approach and integrates local climate and farm information in order to make the results more relevant to the user’s own context.

Developed with users across the TRANSFORM regions

The development of the prototype is based on a user-centred approach involving farmers and advisors from the TRANSFORM regions. Questionnaires, focus groups and user testing activities have helped identify expectations, needs and priorities for the tool.

This testing phase will continue throughout the project to further improve the FRE and support the development of innovative and climate-resilient crop rotations.

More updates on the next stages of development and testing activities will be shared in the coming months, so stay tuned!
